CITROEN AMI 6 1964 WHITE L.E. 3552 PCS.
The French manufacturer of avant-garde automobiles, Citroen, always had a faible for exceptional technological solutions in its cars. Whether the world famous hydro-pneumatical suspension, the high pressure breaking system or magnifying speedometers – whoever searched for a car apart banal attributes, made a find at Citroen. Also in the design of the body, the engineers in Paris went in a different direction than the competition. An especially exceptional exemplar was produced from 1961 on – the “Ami 6”.
Drawn by the designer Flaminio Bertoni, who also developed the sensational DS, the Ami (English: friend) was supposed to fill the gap between the 2CV and the large DS. For many bizarre, the car was equipped with a striking inbound curved rear window, which made the car breach with almost all stylistic traditions. But this was no harm to its success – especially in the domestic market. On the contrary: During the eight year production more than one million “small friends” were built. In 1966 even, five years after the launch, it was France's top-selling automobile.
