Timed to match Holden's release of the VS Commodore range of cars, HSV also announced its VS range of performance vehicles in April 1995. Top of the tree in the grunt department remained the GTS, which although visually similar to the Clubsport, was exclusive in featuring the 215 kW engine (5.7 litre Holden) mated to the BTR T56 6-speed manual transmission. Priced at $61,000.00 , the GTS was presented as the fastest available Australian production car - 250kph as tested at Holden's Lang Lang proving ground - and ran performance figures along the lines of 0-100kph in 6.6 seconds and the standing 400m in 14.8 seconds, although some car magazines subsequently recorded better times than these official figures. The new VS GTS adopted a bolder look to the superseded VR GTS by introducing a more aggressive grille aperture and highly polished three spoke alloy road wheels, along with amendments to body paint colours. A popular luxury upgrade was the Devenish sports seats with Flinders leather trim, and these options were selected by Biante to be incorporated into our 1:18 scale models of the VS GTS.
