For hillclimbing, or hillracing, Auto Union modified their Type C to incorporate a dual wheel system for each rear axle in order to arrest the massive torque output of the supercharged V16 engine. Hans Stuck was regarded as 'King of the Mountain' in the Auto Union, but it was fellow Type C pilot, Bernd Rosemeyer who won the 1936 German Hillracing Championship.
