This one-off unique vehicle was built by Mercedes-Benz as a high speed transporter of their W196 and 300SLR racing cars during 1954. The vehicle lead a short life due to the factory's withdrawal from racing in 1955 and was later scrapped - however, in 1993 Mercedes-Benz commissioned a scratch-built replica for the company museum, a task that consumed seven years and something like 6,000 man hours.
